Katherine Heigl makes Marc Jacobs look good

There seems to be sort of a Katherine Heigl backlash going on in Hollywood right now. At first, people loved her – she’s the chick from Grey’s Anatomy! She was in Knocked Up! And then she started talking passive-aggressive crap about her employers and the writers on Grey’s and refusing an Emmy nod when no one had actually GIVEN her one yet. And when you’re famous and beautiful and seemingly not at all thankful for the advantages you’ve gained so far in life, well, that gets under people’s skin.

Personally, I try to avoid hearing her talk or reading her interviews at all costs so that I can enjoy her movies and, sometimes, her outfits. Her look tends to be polished and classic, which is a nice counterpoint to the sloppy, rocker edge of a lot of starlets her age (which I also enjoy, just in a different way). In these pictures, she’s combining classic with funky by carrying the Marc Jacobs Memphis Tote, a bag (and line) that drew some very strong opinion from handbag enthusiasts. I’ve always been a fan of it; it packs a lot of punch and would brighten up any regular tee-and-jeans outfit in your closet. It looks fantastic against the dark colors in these photographs, and the contrast makes the mustard yellow of the bag’s super-soft leather really pop.
