Leighton Meester mixes neutral textures as Blair Waldorf

By far, my favorite part of cold-weather dressing is mixing textures, and it looks as though Gossip Girl‘s costumers agree with that notion wholeheartedly. Because texture can get overwhelming if it’s mixed in bold colors, they did a wise thing and kept this outfit for Leighton Meester‘s character completely neutral.

Not only is her black-and-cream checked Bensoni Military Coat a perfectly bold winter option, but her Valentino Aphrodite Satchel is a gorgeous ladylike compliment. With all the texture going on it the outfit, though (I haven’t even mentioned her snake and patent Giuseppe Zanotti pumps yet), I might have preferred the plain leather version of the bag to this intricate iteration. Gossip Girl‘s styling is purposefully over-the-top, though, and I think that this is one of the costumers’ best efforts.

I appreciate the fashions on Gossip Girl. That’s one of the main reasons why I watch it other than Chuck. I always like a little bad boy. However, this is another instance where they are over-styled. Too much pattern for my taste. Either the handbag or the tights should have been solid.

I wouldn’t wear it, even though I like most of Blair’s and Serena’s outfits on GG.
These tights look tacky, especially paired with this particular coat. I like patterns on clothes, I just don’t like them all together. I’d prefer it if she wore these tights with a mini black pencil skirt, black turtleneck and black coat.

I love this whole look. I think all of the pieces look fabulous together.

I too am a huge fan of this look! Mixing patterns is something I implement into my own wardrobe during the winter months. Also, I think over-styling is something we’ve come to expect from the wardrobe department so it would look odd if Blaire and Serena weren’t dressed to the nines each and every episode. The only thing I’m not crazy about is her Giuseppe Zanotti pumps, but then again, I am not a fan of the brand in general.
