2011 Met Gala: Sofia Vergara looks restrained in Carolina Herrera

Next in the list of 2011 Met Gala attendees who disappointed me a little bit is Modern Family star Sofia Vergara, who aged herself a few years in a painted, somewhat traditional Carolina Herrera gown. Yawn.

Vergara is a big fan of Herrera’s designs and often wears her clothes to events, and usually she looks great in them, but this dress is a bit too precious and leaves me cold. Particularly for an event all about the extremes of fashion, a look like this seems completely tone-deaf and borderline inappropriate. It would have looked nice at a lower-key New York City charity function, but for fashion’s biggest red carpet, I need Sofia to go big or go home.
