Golden Globes 2011: Sofia Vergara chooses crimson Vera Wang

It’s hard to concentrate on anything that Modern Family star Sofia Vergara is wearing for obvious reasons, but let’s discuss the Vera Wang corseted gown that she wore to last night’s 2011 Golden Globe Awards for a moment. I’m torn, y’all.

On the one hand, the structure and color of the dress are absolutely perfect on Vergara, and she has the presence and confidence to pull off such a bold color and an obviously sexy dress. On the other hand, I feel like this particular design could have been executed in a more high-end way. The fabric looks bunched and wrinkled in a rumpled way, not in a purposeful or stylistically advantageous way. The corsetry on the back also felt a bit costume-y because of the somewhat obvious red and black color scheme, so although parts of this dress work exceedingly well, it was not one of my favorites overall.

Anyway, I can’t get past the fact that the dress is so wrinkled. No one on the glam squad had a steamer? Not a fan. It just looks like a cheap prom dress. I think that it’s the color and the material used.
